As a result, the skin starts to sag, lose its natural glow, and wrinkles become deeper and more noticeable.
Beyond glycation, high sugar intake also triggers inflammation in the body. This inflammation speeds up skin aging and can cause redness, breakouts, and uneven skin tone. Additionally, a diet high in sugar can make your skin more sensitive to sun damage. Exposure to UV rays then leads to pigmentation issues, dark spots, and further loss of skin’s natural radiance.
To protect your skin, Dr. Jani recommends eating foods rich in antioxidants, such as berries, nuts, and leafy greens, and staying well hydrated. Using sunscreen daily is also essential to guard against sun damage. Finally, reducing refined sugar intake and opting for complex carbohydrates can help maintain healthier, younger-looking skin.
