Ananda Lewis, the beloved MTV host from the late ’90s, has passed away at the age of 49 after a long battle with stage 4 breast cancer. Her sister, Lakshmi, confirmed the news in an emotional post on Facebook, marking the end of Ananda’s years of suffering.
According to Lakshmi, Ananda passed away on Wednesday at 11:35 AM while in hospice care at her Los Angeles home. She had fought the disease for six years, exploring both conventional and unconventional treatments in an effort to manage her condition.
Lakshmi shared that many celebrities have reached out, offering tributes and reflections on how Ananda impacted their careers and conducted interviews with poise and professionalism. A memorial service for Ananda is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.
The loss was particularly poignant for Ananda’s family as her 14-year-old son graduated from middle school on the same day. Lakshmi described it as a “bittersweet” moment for the family.
Ananda had bravely shared her journey with breast cancer, revealing in an interview last October that her condition had progressed to Stage 4. At that time, she also disclosed her decision to forgo a mastectomy as part of her treatment plan.
Known for her charismatic hosting on MTV’s “TRL” and “Spring Break,” Ananda later went on to host a self-titled daytime talk show. She also continued to make her mark as a news correspondent for various broadcast networks and became a dedicated spokesperson for the Humane Society.
Her passing is deeply mourned by her family, friends, and fans alike.
