Support During Vaccination Week in the Americas
Dr. Vivas expressed gratitude for Canada’s support during the recent Vaccination Week in the Americas, particularly in Trinidad and Tobago. Both Dr. Vivas and Canadian High Commissioner Michael Callan attended the Vaccination and Health Fair on May 3, 2025, an event that promoted vaccination and other health services to the local community.
Grant-Funded Initiatives in 2025
Canada’s support extends beyond Vaccination Week, funding several initiatives in 2025 aimed at strengthening public health efforts. These include:
- National Self-Assessment of the Expanded Program for Immunization (EPI) using the PAHO/WHO Monitoring tool.
- Implementation of a Manual for the surveillance of Events Supposedly Attributable to Vaccines or Immunizations (ESAVI).
- Updating the National Immunization Manual and developing job aids for healthcare workers.
- Promoting awareness about cervical cancer and HPV vaccination through health education and communication strategies.
Enhancing Local Health Infrastructure
These initiatives are vital for strengthening local healthcare systems, ensuring healthcare workers have the tools and knowledge needed for effective care.
