Mandaue City health officials reported a suspected case of monkeypox (Mpox) on Wednesday, May 28. The City Health Office confirmed that the patient is a 39-year-old man with no recent travel history outside Cebu.
Dr. Debra Catulong, chief of the Mandaue City Health Office, said the patient sought medical care after developing skin lesions. He is currently under home isolation and has received a medical and food assistance kit.
Dr. Catulong urged the public to remain calm, stressing that the case is still under investigation by the Department of Health (DOH). Samples from the patient have been sent to DOH Region 7 and will be forwarded to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine for confirmation.
While the diagnosis is not yet confirmed, residents are advised to stay alert. Anyone who notices unusual skin rashes or other concerning symptoms should isolate themselves and seek medical help promptly.
The health official also reminded the community to follow preventive measures such as wearing face masks, washing hands frequently, and avoiding crowded places.
For those isolating at home, Dr. Catulong recommends staying hydrated, resting well, and using paracetamol to ease symptoms.
The situation remains under close watch as authorities await test results.
