Jaipur, May 30 — Rajasthan has reported seven new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising the state’s total for the year to 39, according to the Health Department. The new infections were detected in Jaipur and Jodhpur, prompting officials to review hospital preparedness.
In Jodhpur, two patients tested positive at AIIMS — a 16-year-old girl from Balotra and a 31-year-old woman from Bikaner. Jaipur accounted for five new cases, with two reported at Sawai Man Singh Hospital, and one case each at Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Jaipuria Hospital, and a private facility.
Health Department Director Dr. Ravi Prakash Sharma has instructed all divisional-level joint directors to conduct mock drills at district hospitals. The goal is to evaluate the availability and functionality of oxygen supply systems in case of a further rise in cases.
“District hospitals must check the condition and stock of oxygen cylinders, concentrators, and liquid medical oxygen (LMO) tanks,” Sharma said. He added that a detailed report must be submitted by June 2 to assess the current infrastructure.
The state has reported one COVID-related death so far this year. Jaipur has seen the highest number of cases, with 17, followed by Jodhpur with six and Udaipur with four. Didwana has recorded three cases, while Ajmer and Bikaner reported two each. One case each has been reported from Balotra, Dausa, Phalodi, and Sawai Madhopur. One additional case was reported from an unspecified location.
Despite the uptick, national health experts have urged calm. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General recently stated that the infection remains mild in most cases and there is no cause for immediate concern.
Authorities in Rajasthan continue to monitor the situation closely and are working to ensure the healthcare system is ready for any further rise in infections.
