The Ministry of Health and Wellness has launched an investigation into suspected cases of an infectious skin disease affecting some patients at the St Michael District Hospital, commonly known as the Geriatric Hospital. This development has raised concerns about the health and safety of both patients and staff within the facility.
Officials from the ministry confirmed that they are fully committed to addressing the situation. They are mobilizing all available resources from both public and private healthcare sectors to thoroughly identify the cause of the outbreak, provide appropriate treatment to those affected, and ultimately work towards eradicating the disease from the Beckles Road hospital.
As part of the containment efforts, the ministry has taken precautionary measures by temporarily suspending visits by members of the public to Units 1 and 2 of the hospital. This restriction will remain in place until further notice to minimize the risk of the disease spreading to other patients, visitors, or hospital staff.
The ministry reassured the public that they are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available. They also urged anyone experiencing unusual skin symptoms to seek medical attention promptly to prevent potential spread.
