Lily Murphy, 30, from Watford, was diagnosed with stage 1B melanoma at age 23 after using sunbeds fewer than 10 times. The diagnosis came after a trip to Southeast Asia with friends.
After initially receiving an all-clear, Lily began having back and chest pain in 2023. Her symptoms were first thought to be anxiety, but scans and blood tests later confirmed her melanoma had advanced to stage four, spreading to her neck and lungs.
Lily now faces lifelong treatment for her cancer.
Working as an NHS administrative clerk in the dermatology department at Watford General Hospital, she has seen more young people referred for cancer biopsies, many linked to sunbed use.
She urges action to protect others from similar risks.
