New Delhi — The Delhi government is set to strengthen its healthcare services with the launch of two new specialised units at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital. On Thursday, the hospital will open a medical genetics ward and a nucleic acid amplification testing (NAT) facility to improve diagnostic and treatment options.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Health Minister Pankaj Singh will officially inaugurate these units at 10 a.m., according to hospital officials. The move is part of the government’s broader plan to modernise public healthcare and provide advanced medical services across Delhi.
The new Medical Genetics Ward will focus on diagnosing, treating, and counselling patients with inherited genetic disorders. Meanwhile, the NAT facility will boost the hospital’s ability to detect infections early. This testing method is especially important for screening donated blood for viruses such as HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C, helping to ensure safer blood transfusions.
The Delhi government recently reassigned 26 senior medical officials to key government hospitals, including LNJP Hospital, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, and GB Pant Hospital. This administrative reshuffle aims to strengthen the leadership and management of major public health institutions in the capital.
Additionally, Dr. Rati Makkar has been appointed as the new Director General of Health Services (DGHS) in Delhi. She previously served as Senior Medical Officer at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, officials confirmed.
