The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has launched an investigation into the spread of Lumpy Skin Disease and African Swine Fever among domesticated animals across the country. The aim is to assess the situation and identify immediate control measures.
On Tuesday, a meeting chaired by Agriculture Minister Ram Nath Adhikari decided to form a task force led by a senior veterinarian from the Department of Livestock Services (DoLS). The team will include representatives from the Central Veterinary Laboratory, provincial ministries, and local authorities.
The Department of Livestock Services has appointed Dr. Tapendra Prasad Bohora, a senior veterinarian from the Animal Health Division, as the focal point for daily and periodic updates on the diseases’ status.
The meeting also directed the DoLS to estimate the resources needed to control the diseases, with cooperation from all levels of government.
