Natasha Hamilton, the 42-year-old singer from Atomic Kitten, recently revealed she was diagnosed with skin cancer last year after initially mistaking the symptoms for a mosquito bite. While on holiday in Majorca, Hamilton noticed an itchy spot on her back following sun exposure. At first, she believed it was just a mosquito bite and did not pay much attention to it.
After several weeks of persistent itching, she asked her husband to examine the spot and take a photo. It was then that she realized the mark was unusual. Hamilton later sought medical advice and was diagnosed with basal-cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer. She underwent surgery to have the carcinoma removed and is now cancer-free.
Hamilton shared that the affected area had been a dark freckle on her back for many years but had never caused concern before. She suspects her frequent use of sunbeds in the 1990s and years of sunburn contributed to the development of the cancer. She emphasized the importance of being vigilant about sun protection, especially after her diagnosis.
Reflecting on her experience, Hamilton admitted the health scare reminded her that she is “not invincible.” She urged others to take care of their skin and seek medical advice if they notice any unusual or persistent changes. Early detection remains key to successful treatment of skin cancer, which often involves minor surgery with a high survival rate.
